MFA in Film Application

To submit an application to our school, please complete the following form and select Submit Application.

There is a fee of $75.00 associated with this application.

It is not necessary to create an account in order to complete an application for admission. If you will not complete the application in one sitting please SAVE the form and you will receive an email with directions on how to access the form for future completion.

Before you complete this application form, you should have your attachments prepared and your credit card available to pay the application fee. You may also SAVE this form so long as you do so before selecting "Submit Application".

Items to be submitted online with this form:

1) a $75.00 non-refundable application fee (payment by credit card is required when using this form, and must be submitted at the time of application completion). Once your submit the application and provide payment, you will be directed to the VCFA materials application page to submit.

2) a narrative statement

3) a CV

4) Two (2) work samples that best reflect your artistic vision. All samples must be the original work of the applicant.

For applicants seeking to focus on filmmaking:

Sample 1 should be a video for which the applicant played a major creative role, cued to a sample of up to 10 minutes. The entire work should be submitted. If it is longer than 10 minutes, it will be viewed at the committee’s discretion.

Sample 2 may follow the same parameters, or else be up to 20 pages from a completed short or feature screenplay. If longer than 20 pages, the entire screenplay should be submitted and may be read at the committee’s discretion.

For applicants seeking to focus on screenwriting:

Sample 1 should be up to 20 pages of a completed screenplay. If longer than 20 pages, the entire screenplay should be submitted and may be read at the committee’s discretion.

Sample 2 may follow the same parameters or else be a treatment of up to 10 pages, or a video sample as set forth above.

Applying as a screenwriter or a filmmaker will not exclude a student from studying all aspects of filmmaking.

Optional (for all samples): A synopsis of up to 100 words.

Optional (for all samples): A description of up to 100 words of the action leading up to the sample, if it is not from the beginning of the piece.

All screenwriting samples should be in standard screenplay format.

5) An official transcript from each college previously attended, sent directly from the issuing institution to: MFA in Film, Office of Admissions, Vermont College of Fine Arts, 36 College Street, Montpelier, VT 05602.

6) Two letters of recommendation should be sent directly by the providers

You are strongly encouraged to submit requests to providers of letters of recommandation as soon as possible. You may go to the materials submission portion of the application, sign up, and complete the references section
